Satan vs the Aliens? I Went Live with the Author of Haunting Skies

I did my first live interview with an actual filmmaker today, and I am pleased to report that I did not freeze, crash, or accidentally end the stream! Christian Kang Bachini came on Make It Weird’s TikTok Live to talk about Haunting Skies, the novel he published this summer and is now adapting for the screen. The full replay is below. Watch it. I’m still buzzing. Am I being abducted? Whatever…beam me up!

First, the premise, because it’s insane

Haunting Skies opens after humanity has already lost. Alien ships own the sky, and the survivors are being rounded up for grotesque experiments. Claire and Derek are on the run with their daughter Elisa, who happens to be possessed by Satan. Enter Father Kang, the last exorcist standing, with a plan: smuggle the possessed kid aboard the mothership, cut a deal with the Devil, and let Hell handle the invasion.

That’s the pitch. The last exorcist on Earth unleashing Hell in space. I’ve been reading horror my whole life and I have never seen anyone swing at two mythologies this hard in one book and connect with both.

Bachini shopped it the traditional way first. Agents came back with rewrite notes that sanded off everything interesting, so he walked and published it himself in July. It promptly charted among Amazon’s top occult and supernatural horror sellers, which is the most satisfying possible outcome for that story. Book two lands in October.

@make.it.weird6 Satan vs the Aliens? You guys went wild for that story the other week, and here’s the guy who came up with it! Had a blast chatting with author and filmmaker Christian Kang Bachini to talk about the project, the art of filmmaking, and much more. @Christian Kang Bachini #HauntingSkies #horrortok #horrorbooks #horrormovies #scifihorror ♬ original sound – Make It Weird
