Gale Weathers Ready To Direct Scream 8

Courteney Cox says she wants to direct “Scream 8.” She was at TIFF promoting her own directorial effort, “Evil Genius,” when Deadline asked if she’d take the job. “I think I should, honestly,” she said. “Nobody knows more about that movie than I do.”

Cox has played Gale Weathers since the original “Scream” in 1996, making her one of the only people left standing across the whole franchise. She also called directing the film “a good publicity thing” and told the studio to “get on it.”

The director’s chair is actually open. Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original film and directed “Scream 7,” isn’t returning for the next one, and Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have moved on to other projects. No director has been announced yet, but meetings are reportedly underway.
