River Sets January 2027 Release Date
Universal and Blumhouse’s Atomic Monster have set a release date for “River.” The survival slasher opens in theaters January 15, 2027, over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, according to JoBlo.
The film follows three estranged siblings who reunite to scatter their late father’s ashes at his favorite spot on a river. Their boat breaks down, stranding them on the water while masked killers stalk them from the shore. Jane Levy and Jessica Rothe star, alongside Max Mattern and Dane DiLiegro.
Joshua Giuliano directs, making his feature debut. Universal and Blumhouse bought the movie out of the Toronto International Film Festival for more than $10 million, beating out a competing bid from Sony.
JoBlo’s Chris Bumbray reviewed “River” out of its TIFF premiere and gave it a 7/10, calling it a brutal, well-made survival slasher with a strong cast. January has become a regular dumping ground for mainstream horror, and this gives the slot an actual slasher instead of a leftover.
