Rothe Teases Happy Death Day 3
Jessica Rothe says she and writer/director Christopher Landon have finally worked out the story for Happy Death Day 3.
MovieWeb reports that Rothe described spending hours with Landon at a Le Pain Quotidien, working through the whole movie from start to finish. She didn’t share plot details, but she floated one idea for where her character, Tree Gelbman, could land next: “if we pull a Jamie Lee Curtis from Halloween and Tree comes back as a badass 50-year-old.” She added, “I know that we will get to tell the rest of the story.”
That’s speculation, not a confirmed plot point. Rothe said the project is still waiting on funding from Universal and Blumhouse, and no production or release date has been set. Blumhouse chief Jason Blum has previously suggested a third movie is unlikely to happen at all, which makes Rothe’s enthusiasm notable.
The first two Happy Death Day movies followed Tree reliving the day of her murder over and over until she figured out who killed her, then doing it all again with a multiverse twist for the sequel. A third film has been talked about on and off for years without ever getting a green light.
