Bradley Rebuilt Pinhead’s Voice From Memory
Doug Bradley had to rebuild Pinhead’s voice from memory for the new Hellraiser: Revival video game, which launches today. iHorror reports that nobody on the original Hellraiser team documented how they created the character’s vocal effects back in the 1980s, so Bradley described what he remembered of the process, and that became the sound team’s starting point for the new game.
Without any notes to go on, every sequel’s sound team since has had to work out Pinhead’s voice from scratch, with no instructions to follow. The outlet frames it as a reminder that even an effect this iconic almost didn’t survive its own era, because nobody thought to write down how it was made.
Hellraiser: Revival marks Bradley’s return to the role he originated in 1987, with Clive Barker also back in an advisory capacity. It’s a rare case of a legacy horror property pulling the original actor back in instead of recasting the part from the ground up.
