Review: Fall 2, Deadpoint

BY: DAVEY

I was surprised by how much I liked Fall 2: Deadpoint. When the trailer first came out I was mad, because it looked like it showed the whole movie, and it pretty much does right up until the final act. Directors Michael and Peter Spierig still did the thing a movie like this has to do, which is make you uncomfortable. I squirmed through a good chunk of it.

The part I can’t get past is why Jax takes this trip at all. Her sister Shiloh died in the first Fall, and Jax’s answer is to head to Thailand and walk the plank on Mount Kwan to honor her. That feels like a recycled plot, where grieving family members go do the same dangerous thing that got their person killed and call it a tribute.

Ouija (2014) has Debbie’s friends pick up the same board that led to her death so they can say goodbye. Blair Witch (2016) sends James back into the Black Hills woods to look for his sister Heather, who vanished there. Both are the kind of choice that makes me want to yell at the screen, and Fall 2 gave me that same feeling.

Even with that, it was a fun ride overall. I’m glad I watched it at home on streaming instead of paying for a theater ticket.
