King And Chizmar Close Their Trilogies
Stephen King and Richard Chizmar both wrapped long-running trilogies the same week, and the two sat down with Fangoria to talk about it. King’s Jack Sawyer series closes with Other Worlds Than These, co-written with the late Peter Straub, while Chizmar’s Boogeyman trilogy wraps with Killing the Boogeyman. Both books came out October 6.
King says he felt Straub’s presence throughout the writing. “I felt Peter’s presence everywhere, but most of all during the beginning chapters,” he said, adding that he leaned on Straub’s voice early on: “To tell the truth, I used him as a crutch.” Chizmar echoed that, saying he “felt Peter Straub’s presence throughout” as well, and called King’s book “a crackerjack of a story.”
Asked if the Boogeyman could ever come back, Chizmar didn’t rule it out. “There’s always that possibility,” he said, quoting Halloween’s Tommy Doyle right back: “You can’t kill the boogeyman.”
