Resident Evil Nears $200 Million

Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is closing in on $200 million worldwide, and it hasn’t even opened in China or Japan yet. Dread Central reports the film has pulled in roughly $196 million globally after its second weekend.

The reboot already set a franchise-best domestic debut of $60 million, with $93 million more coming from 65 international markets. This past weekend added another $27 million internationally, a 45% drop from its opening but still solid for a second weekend.

China opens the film on October 5, with Japan following on October 9. Those two markets combined for close to $196 million on the previous Resident Evil installment, so there’s a lot of room left for this one to grow.
