Tommy Dorfman To Adapt Carrying
Tommy Dorfman is adapting Samantha Josephs’ debut novel “Carrying” into a feature film, directing and producing through her label Good Girl Productions. Dread Central reports that Josephs is writing the screenplay herself.
The novel follows Martha, a stealth transgender woman whose carefully built life is upended by a mysterious chronic illness. After trying experimental treatments, she starts having strange cravings and discovers she’s pregnant, despite that being medically impossible. Josephs has called the book “extremely out there” and said it feels touching that Dorfman connected so completely with Martha and her story.
“Carrying” hits bookstores from Putnam on October 6, ahead of any production timeline for the film. Dorfman is best known as an actor from “13 Reasons Why” and has been building a producing slate of genre stories with trans leads, including a separate adaptation of Torrey Peters’ novel “Detransition, Baby.”
