Six new horror releases land this weekend, in theaters and at home. Here’s what’s new.
Beware Boiúna (in theaters)
Mike P. Nelson, who has already been tapped to direct the next Saw film, takes a medical mission deep into the Amazon, where it turns into a fight for survival when an ancient giant snake wakes up. Kiana Madeira from the Fear Street trilogy and Jessica Rothe from Happy Death Day star. The film is built on one of Brazil’s most famous snake legends.
Verity (in theaters)
Colleen Hoover’s bestseller hits the big screen from Amazon MGM Studios. Dakota Johnson plays a struggling writer hired to finish a book series after its famous author, played by Anne Hathaway, is left incapacitated. When she moves into the author’s home, she falls for the husband, played by Josh Hartnett, and uncovers a dangerous secret manuscript.
The Influencer Project (in theaters)
Real-life content creator Chiara King plays herself, traveling to Copenhagen with a documentary crew for a behind-the-scenes look at online fame. As the cameras and her fans follow her every move, an obsessive stalker starts closing in. Blair Witch Project creators Eduardo Sánchez and Gregg Hale produce, and Mike Nybroe directs. It’s playing at AMC and Regal, among others.
Infirmary (Shudder)
Shudder’s newest original premieres Friday. A guard vanished on his first night at an old psych hospital in 2023, and his bodycam footage shows strange incidents investigators still can’t explain. Bloody Disgusting has Shudder’s full October lineup.
I Would Rather Die (Prime Video)
This Mexican zombie horror comedy series from Sebastián Sariñana follows Archie, an unpopular teen whose life changes after he’s bitten by a zombie at a local store. Fernanda Castillo co-stars as a detective helping the group of teens figure out what’s threatening their town.
Bite Size Terror (Tubi)
Tubi’s new 10-episode short-form anthology covers everything from the occult and the supernatural to body horror, monsters and dark comedy, with a new story every episode. Peter Rice executive produces. In the first episode, a babysitter notices a child is different after he comes back up from an underwater trick in a backyard pool. It’s free to watch.
