Weekend of: October 16, 2026
Four new horror releases land this weekend, in theaters and at home. Here’s what’s new.
Crystal Lake (Peacock)
The Friday the 13th prequel series from A24 tells Pamela Voorhees’ story before the original movie. Linda Cardellini plays Pam, a single mother who still can’t shake her grief after her young son Jason drowned in the town lake almost a year earlier. When two strangers show up at her door digging into her past, things start to unravel. Callum Vinson plays young Jason, and It: Welcome to Derry writer Brad Caleb Kane created the show. Original Friday the 13th writer Victor Miller is an executive producer. All eight episodes are streaming now.
Whalefall (in theaters)
Brian Duffield, who made No One Will Save You, adapts Daniel Kraus’ 2023 novel. Austin Abrams plays a scuba diver searching the ocean for the remains of his father, played by Josh Brolin, when he gets swallowed by a sperm whale. With one hour of oxygen left in his tank, he has to find a way out. It opens in theaters Friday.
Crawlers (in theaters)
Matilda Lutz from Revenge plays Serena, the overworked manager of the Paradiso Palms apartment complex, when venomous spiders take over the building. A police quarantine traps everyone inside, and she has to use what she knows about the place to help the residents survive. Angel Gómez Hernández, who made Don’t Listen, directs from a script by Jayson Rothwell. Gregg Sulkin and William Miller co-star. It opens in theaters Friday.
Hallowarrior (Shudder)
Milly Shapiro from Hereditary plays Pumpkin, the last girl on Earth after a plague wiped out humanity. She’s scavenging for supplies on Halloween eve when a gang of raiders led by Shannyn Sossamon shows up at her door, and she has to fight her way through the night with candy, wits and whatever weapons she can find. AJ Bowen from You’re Next and Ajani Russell co-star. It’s the first feature from writer-director Ben Sottak, based on his 2021 short Scavenger. It premieres on Shudder Friday.
